3G of Exploitation and its remedies

28000 students secured more than 90% marks in recently announced CBSE examination 2012 result. So many talents produced in young age in India but by the time they reach to adulthood, all these vanish. In the country of 1.2 billion excellence remains a starve commodity. I personally feel that all these excellence vanish under the pressure of sheer exploitations from their near and dear ones. It may not be easy to understand but it is important to try. To get to the root, we need to ask some serious questions -

Why it is difficult to grow big in India? What is the problem in environment?

Why there are no significant researches or innovations in sixty years of independent India?

Why do we as an Indian hate excellence consciously or unconsciously?

Exploitation is on peak in a developing society in the name of culture or traditions. Individuals with high caliber and dedicated professionals fail before they are able to achieve their peak because of pressure to follow traditions and culture. Most of the exploitations result from existing outdated culture and traditions. A system of exploitations from family, society and nation forces individuals to give up their bigger goals. You can hardly find a person with bigger goal today in India. All are either compelled or forced to accept much smaller goals than they are capable of doing. Nation loses excellence.

It is long back in late 70s and beginning of 80s I started living a conscious life. It was around 15-16 years of age when I felt that I can do whatever I aim for. I started doing my home work and created wisdom sources to have better decision making system. This is essential for a successful and prosperous life. One side when I put up lot of efforts to find truth, exploitations also moved along. In the life of a talented individual from middle class, exploitations never became obvious and apparent, it remain so integral to existing traditions. It gets entangled with growth. Many a time exploitation is so integrated that one can hardly feel whether it is exploitation or support. Like many others, my time passed too with lot of ups and down. Certainly I was forced to take these as part of life.

In 2005 when I left my regular job to write a book on one of the greatest idea of this century, I was very excited about the desired outcome. Compared to the impact of various ideas prevalent in the world, I was never hesitant to declare myself “No 1 thinker of the world”. This is easy said than done. One can dream and work but desired outcome never comes without sustained effort and support from relatives, friends and institutions. Here again after 20 years when I felt things are within my reach, I was trapped in sheer exploitations. This time exploitation boundary increased to national boundary.

After analyzing the life of 30 years, I can conclude that I have reached to third generation of exploitations –

First Generation of exploitations – My known exploitations started just when I started living my conscious life at the age of around 15-16. People around me exploited me for my energy, vitality, knowledge and ignorance. My own relatives exploited me heavily to meet their short term goals at my long term loss. Many did because of their ignorance, some because of their selfish nature and few may be consciously. I remained handicap. I kept on getting exploited because of my own approaches towards life, my own limitations to grow and my ignorance to alternatives. The same thing happens with all young growing individuals in this country.

Second generation of my exploitation started when I got married. My wife was made to do what she should not have done. Most of these things were forced on her on the name of culture and traditions. She was not taken care of her simple aspiration because of ignorance, selfishness and competiveness. While I helped my brother to become a Doctor even he failed in class 12 exams, he could not help my wife to complete her PG rather he took all her books and did PG himself. Never bothered how and what she does. My wife could not do what she was capable of doing. It is my personal loss.

Third generation of exploitations started when my daughter was about to reach excellence in sports. I remember my brother’s wife working in SAIL suggested submitting application for sponsor in the year 2008. Subsequently while I submitted application to SAIL’s office, she and my brother have not spoken neither came to see her games till today. Why to talk about one brother, no close relatives or friends came forward to witness her achievements. Over and above other brothers and relatives working in USA and having great life, gave us the hardships I could have never imagined. The path towards selection trial for Asian Junior and World Junior Championship in 2012 has been travelled by my daughter without any support from relatives and friends. Exploitations move quietly in generations. Even nation does not come forward to help in achieving excellence rather National Coach and others are there to take credit of your success without being part of your struggle.

One has to be lucky to be protected from these inner conflicts and selfishness.

Exploitation continues and as an individual looking for excellence, there is hardly any time to creep on such issues. Today when 28000 students secure more than 90% marks, understanding such exploitations is must to avoid the failures. Two steps need to be taken-

    1.      Do not rely on input or support from closed relatives – If you are ambitious, you need not to take input from close relatives and friends because it is not there. Excellence is just not available around. It is important to look for wisdom elsewhere. It is essential that future strategic decisions are taken based on your own information, analysis and data. Look for these on Internet, Google or books.

     2.    Help people without expecting returns – As a social animal, I think it may be essential to help people around us but no return should be expected. One must focus on own skill sets to sharpen to achieve excellence and keep priority clear. You are the only one who can take care of your own interests.

Exploitations are the biggest impediments in the life of growing individuals in a developing society. Relatives, society or even nation keep exploiting at various stages of your growth and limit the dream of excellence. Avoid such ruthless and ignorant exploitations from your close relatives, friends and your society.

India needs excellence and these can be achieved by curbing these prevalent exploitations.

Unelected Dictators - Rulers from Internet world

India is a free nation. Thanks to Hindu way of living, we have democracy in its purest form. As a Hindu, we are not bound to go to temple every week, we are a free soul. We can chose our God or abuse them at will. We became Chief Minister by abusing God or arresting God man. We chose our God based on region or even city. We are free in some real sense.

Freedom is in our DNA and we all should be proud of this.

This freedom does not rest with Hindus only. Even Muslims are free. Sikhs are free. Similarly other communities are free. We can use computer, laptop and iPAD and there is no fatwa on its use. Our ladies can chose their dresses and roam in jeans. As a sikh, we can have turban or we simply have handkerchief on head and visit Gurudwara. Many intelligent Sikhs and Muslims in the country are not regular visitors to Gurdwara or Mosque. People are free.

India breeds freedom.

And amidst this freedom, Congress came with a new word – Unelected Dictators. I personally feel that this word depicts a significant change in the mindset of rulers, leaders and Government. They feel helpless and hapless. They feel marginalized. They feel threatened by this free people.

Today when Arab world is witnessing uprising all over and all these for the good of humanity, I see a bright future for human beings. Arab world is not going to be the same again. One side when the country like Egypt has been invented fortunate to accept the change, the rulers from Libya, Syria and others are struggling for their dominance. But no one should have doubt that at the end, it has to be people power. No human beings born on earth want to be slave.

Just few years back, no body would have expected that upsurge will occur in Arab world. Even I was not sure if I ever thought about these changes in Muslim world. I was expecting that the change for democracy will certainly start from China but unfortunately Chinese are keeping mum and instead of witnessing change in Chinese system, we are seeing the change in Muslim world. On the other hand, Chinese are migrating to West for a better life.

I think similar things happened in India few decades back what is happening in China today.

The leaderships in India was so hopeless in the decade of 70 and 80s that most of the educated and affluent people migrated to West to shape their career but in second decade of 21st century, things started changing. Educated from IITs are no more going away to USA or UK but staying here and trying to bring the change. Arvind Kejriwal, a Mechanical Engineer from IIT, struggled here in this country to bring the change what we all dream for. He did not go to USA to build his career. He made his career here. Earlier as activist for RTI Act for better governance and now for Lok Pal Bill.

The Government calls him and his team elected dictators.

A simple graduate from IIT could be an unelected dictator. This is the power of Internet. This is the power of technology and information. It is great. But I feel pleasure in this word of dictator because it is an individual who is not close to power can make a difference to this country. Just few months back when a poor boy from Ranchi hit a sixer and brought world cup for India, it showed the power of individual. He was not highly trained guy. He never had the world exposure. He never had very affluent life. He struggled as a ticket collector to fulfill his dream and he had the guts to fulfill the dream of 1.2 billion Indians.

Individual power is the supreme power. The successes of Vivekananda and Ravindra Nath Tagore have shown this power. How can we forget the Nobel Laureate C V Raman? Its individual power which is forcing government to call activists unelected dictators a greatest threat. If Congress means by this statement as threat to nation then they are living in a past world. This threat is not to the nation but to the people who have taken guarantee to rule over Indians. In a democracy, no one should take the responsibility to rule for years. They must leave the chair for more qualified and intelligent people.

I do not think that Indians could be worse than people from Arab nations to have courage to bring a change.

Indians are supposed to be more conscious to their rights and privileges. I do not think that we should allow some handful of people to run the nation at their will. People power has to emerge and strong nation has to be build. That’s how many from IITs and IIMs have not gone for lucrative jobs or postings to West but are here to ensure that India becomes great.

Unelected dictators have to change the face of the nation and hopefully will change.

Vikram Seth - a suitable boy talks to Sam Miller

Delhi is a happening place. Even if I am very choosy in finalizing my appointments, I remain too busy to be creative. But this was something I could not avoid. That’s how seeing Vikram Seth lives in conversation with Sam Miller on 03rd Feb 2011, I could not avoid even being back to back with my engagements and I had to rush from a seminar on “Deepening Democracy” organized by one of my old friend Dr D K Giri at Constitution club, New Delhi. These two programs were contradictory but I decided to do it this time.

I was in time for the program to be with famous Indian author Vikram Seth.

However, I could not get time to sit and write about it, it got delayed and only today i.e. on 15th February 2011, on my marriage anniversary day I am trying to finalize it.

Writers can be counted on fingers in this country. Vikram Seth is one of the most famous among others, writer of “Suitable Boy”, working on “Suitable Girl”. I was pleased to attend this live conversation and that too along with my only wife Dr Vidya and daughter Janet.

I enjoyed every bit of this intellectual amalgamation. Except, the ignorance of youth of this country, conversation was live, realistic, frank and visionary. Sam was drinking wine and the same was being done by Vikram in front of the class audience at Indo-French cultural Centre, Lodi Road, New Delhi. It was not a dream but reality.

Class creates its own space in a different world where the perceptions of normal humans in society do not touch. Unfortunately this space is experienced by few at few of the time at few of the places in this country.

Few of the important confessions from the mouth of Vikram Seth -

My parents moved to England when I was just a kid. I could not speak regional language. I faced indifferent race.
First language I learned to write is English.
I read books when young, all English books - splendor series book TINTIN, William etc.
Grandmother was a lover of poetry. She will weep at times to put across her points.
Puskin hexamine tetramin – life revolved around them away from normal Indian traditions or cultures.

Could not afford air fare to come back home.

Warmth why inclined to write something or not
I have written play too
Bonfire remains a part of life; I am luck because nobody destroyed my love letters. I dared to do things differently.

It’s an embarrassment of writing anything when parents are alive.

Spent 11 years in Stanford.
Still trying to understand my father. (I think he must read my book on unlearning to understand generations)

Reading Naipaul, in high, cud figure China Tiananmen square
You remembered my sister name, today she is sitting in front of me with my parents. She is also a poetess in her capacity.

Every poet name comes in the last but I do not do the same.
Clever device don’t know what to ask.
My book gives a political outlook.
What upset me? A talk on Metro extension to Greater Noida.

Challenge to do different
Fear of boredom whichever way I am grateful

“Suitable girl” will be on present

We all had terrible time in Jaipur Literary festival because of contradictory aspects of life.
Not interested to write challenges.

It’s great powerful experience to know that my grandfather was a child.

We are all accident of history.
Book is dedicated to Nani

When I was hanging I was working hard  (I face similar problems most of the time.)

Revision is important

Talk was real and to the ground level. Not much hypocrisy. Sam Miller asked few relevant and real deep questions which touches the part of excellence. I was satisfied and happy that his life was full of those UNLEARNING lessons I have talked in my book “Unlearn Before U Learn” written I 2005 and published in 2007. I felt myself visionary.

In this world of trivializm in Delhi, it was soothing to be in a company with excellence.

Talk ended with drinks (wine & juices) and mouth watering snacks, chicken tikka etc. Great to dish them with some suffy crowd.

Thanks France…. http://delhi.afindia.org thanks Writers, etc!!

Getting lessons from Nobel Laureate

I got my first lesson on a new medical topic known ribosome by none other than two Nobel Laureates. I had never studied medical sciences in my school or college days. It’s all because of wrong or defective education policy of earlier days. This results in my daughter knowing more than I know about ribosome or cells or DNA.

DNA started attracting my attention when I read a book titled “Genome” written by Matt Ridley. I read this book to find the depth and the path of human evolution. Today when I was tutored by two Nobel laureates, my concept about these enhanced. The first one I heard Dr Venkatraman Ramakrishnan known as Venki when he delivered his lecture in FICCI auditorium on 20 Dec 2010.

http://kamekish.sulekha.com/blog/post/2010/12/a-winter-morning-with-nobel-laureate.htm

The second one took place on the last day of Jan 2011, when I happened to listen to another Nobel Laureate Dr Ada Yonath from Israel at AIIMS auditorium.

My daughter was curious to listen to a Nobel Laureate. Her query was simple. Can we all go and listen to a Nobel Laureate free of cost? I explained her that this is a public lecture and people of 21st century have this choice (If you are in metro and conscious). Even Rahul Gandhi may not have decided to listen to a Nobel Laureate but you can do that. It’s all a matter of choice.

As usual we were seated in the front row of AIIMS auditorium 15 minutes in advance. I was just cooling down when I saw an old lady of the age of around 80+ came on dais – confused, searching and curious with a serious smile on her face. I told my daughter that my guess is that she may be Nobel Laureate because it resembled the way Ramakrishnan did when he came on dais in FIICI auditorium. Great people have some similarity.

Slowly people started coming on dais and within few minutes all high flying professors and AIIMS Director got activated. The program started dot on time.

Prof TP Singh gave a good introduction of Dr Ada. How he was in contact with her for last thirty years. How she has been working on finding structure of ribosome for last thirty years since 1976? How she was in touch with AIIMS for various help and collection of data? He spoke about the spirit and efforts for persistence to carry on such long projects.

Ada came and started talking about Ribosome. There was no introduction, no formalities nothing. Straight ribosome.

As she also liked to confirm, Ada Yonath started working on ribosome in 1976, with the sole aim to determine structure of ribosome. Finally the efforts of more than 20 years brought color, she could see the structure of ribosome in 2001, 25 years!!

There are 25000 proteins, 100K Cells, 20 types of amino acid in the body.

Ribosome is like a factory taking mRNA and producing protein.

The medical application was a bonus.

"You don't have to be the biggest to beat the biggest." – Henry Ross Perot

The story of David and Goliath is one of the biblical stories I love so much since the days of my childhood. For those of you who may not be familiar with the story, it is simply a story of how a little shepherd boy defeated a famous fully armed giant warrior. An inspiring story of how a boy rose from nothingness to become one of the greatest king and warrior. Though I am not a religious fanatic, I often use this story as a source of inspiration whenever I am faced with a giant obstacle.

“It’s alright to be Goliath but always act like David.” – Philip Knight

It’s all her GODFATHER during her journey towards structure.

She was happy to show the greetings card given by her granddaughter where she was declared best Grandma.

At the end, she confirmed one of my beliefs, sugar is poisonous.

And at the end too she referred to a quote like a GODFATHER which I have mentioned in my unlearning book.

“The secret of life is to have a task, something you devote your entire life to, something you bring everything to, every minute of the day for the rest of your life. And the most important thing is, it must be something you cannot possibly do. - Henry Moore.”

She answered few of the questions before she closed her talk.

I was happy to hand her over my book on unlearning which she delightfully took and promised me to revert back with her comments.

My daughter photographed this event. She was happy to meet another 80+ old lady scientist doing things herself unlike her Dadi.

Unlearning for global networking

The second book on unlearning with the title "Unlearn Before U Learn for global networking" is published in January 2011. It is available for all idea creators and book lovers.

Unlearning gives us simple clue to resolve many of the complex issues emerging out of changing global scenario. One will have to read it to understand the true meaning of "Egypt Unrest" otherwise all other analysis are the waste of time.

Unlearn for what you dream to achieve in life!!

Five steps for time management

Whenever I meet people they complaint about constraints of time in doing good things. I share the anguish and complaint of all those people because I too live in the same society. As per my observations, we waste plenty of time in doing trivial things. Where is the time to do serious things? However it may be the challenge to distinguish between trivial and serious work. But we do not have options, if we want to do something good & g8, we have to distinguish between trivial and serious works.

The other day I met famous businessman Mr Rahul Bajaj, he said that he does not have time to read books. Although, I have always been surprised when ever I have gone to Vigyan Bhawan, I found him loitering in the front line with dignitaries. Certainly how will he get time to do anything good & g8 in this life?

I met Mr Arun Maira, Member, Planning Commission, Govt of India. He is supposed to be another intellectual in the government circle who is little bit updated. I was surprised to listen to his agony that he does not have time to read. For last many months, whenever any program of national and International seminars appears in the news paper in any cities in India, his name will be there as a speaker or chairman of panelists. He is too busy to speak and attend national and international seminars to do anything good or g8.

Common men and women are busy in attending lectures, seminars, lunch and dinner in five star hotels being organized by MNCs or Indians companies including media, how could one get time to think and do good and g8 things?

As I was analyzing these time constraints issues after playing six good games of squash at DSOI in the evening of 27th January 2011, my wife birthday which we celebrated after coming back home by cutting cake with three of us, I was pondering about the time management issues in this country. I could come out with few steps which may help all of us to get some more time to do good & g8.

Few steps for time management to do good & g8 things are -

1.    Don’t talk about corruptions – Media talks corruptions, leaders talks corruptions, activists are busy in organizing processions talking corruption etc. This life will never give you time to do something good & g8 till you keep talking bad & worse. It’s simple law of attraction. You can never do worthwhile things till the time you talk worthwhile things. So do not waste time in talking corruption, talk about new laws, good governance, talk about innovation, talk about good technology, effective leadership etc. You will have time in your hand.

2.    Avoid watching Indian TV News Channels – TV news channels are wasting the time of people of this country. NDTV is influenced with communists & Bengal, AJJTAK is busy with suspence stories, India TV is very serious to talk about superstitions etc. No channel appears to be straight and genuine. That’s how we never encourage our children to watch TV, IAS aspirants watch BBC, business people attend live seminars and discussions to keep updated, they travel to USA or other developed countries to get ideas. Most top level people do not waste time in watching Indian TV channels. If you could unlearn watching Indian TV channels, this will save lot of your time.

3.    Stop watching Cricket or its related news – Cricket has taken our precious time and energy for good of no one. It is such a time consuming game that the world has not accepted this as real entertaining or worthwhile game. I do not know who is responsible to make this game so favorite among Indians. Was it British? It has to lose its charm. That’s how it is reducing day by day. From five days test matches, it has come down to 40 and then now 20 over one day match. I hope that in the days to come some Lalit Modi will come and make the game of Cricket for one hour or two hours or three hours. If you have to see some game of more hours then watch Federer playing tennis. It’s great to watch those games not cricket. You will not be deprived of your precious time in life and while retirement you will not feel that you could not do anything in this life.

4.    Don’t attend everything every time – People are restless soul. They want to keep themselves busy and active. If they are not able to keep themselves super busy they feel frustrated and isolated. To satisfy this human nature, they keep making plans to attend everything and every time as much as possible. That’s how Rahul Bajaj attends all the meeting in Vigyan Bhawan and Arun Maira is found in all the seminars. Can it ever give you enough time to attend everything or every function? No never so select the best one or two functions what suits to your needs and keep yourself free to do something good & g8.

5.    Don’t learn but unlearn – Learning is endless. Learning is poisonous. Learning kills. You can’t waste your time in learning. I have seen people keep reading anything they get hands off or if their close relatives, friends tell them to read. They keep learning what the people around them tell them to learn. This is not the way to live life in 21st century. You should not take lessons or tips from close relatives, friends and colleagues. Tendulkar don’t keep learning everything, he has not done even college education. Rahul Gandhi do not learn neither reads book. Has Rahul Gandhi ever talked about which book is he reading? Never! Move ahead; take the tips from better media like BBC, TV channels, Internet etc. Unlearn old way of learning and keep unlearning.

Time is precious and as you grow in life, you must be judicious enough to save your time for better things. Life is very complex in the sense that you cannot do everything. If you do trivial things, you are not doing great things, or you cannot do great things. So keep yourself free. You must be able to discard trivial things and not waste time in doing too human things all the time.

You need to make yourself strong to have time in life to do good & g8 things.

One Day Workshop on Unlearning

When I developed the theory of human growth through unlearning, I myself never imagined that it is such a great idea. But every time I encounter people and talk about unlearning, I see their interest and excitements, I feel that there is an urgent need to work on and ensure smooth propagation of this great idea called unlearning. I invite you all to join in this endeavor in whatever way you could.

I conducted "One Day Workshop" on "Innovation thru Unlearning” at Ramanujan College of Management. There were around 20+ participants including faculties from that college. The college Principal also attended the workshop.

This was the third workshop in a row in last two months. I found that people are very excited about the topic called "Unlearning". Generally they have no idea about unlearning however they have aversion to find so many things new in my presentations.

Can I help if our knowledge is getting obsolete in one and a half year?

Many participants found so many things new and find them difficult to understand. The subject is new and difficult to understand. But as usual new things takes time. Unless we devote some time, we shall not be able to understand the topic.

I am happy that many came to my workshop to find unlearning. The response was over all encouraging but I was sad to find that most of them had no idea about the abc of unlearning.

It’s a long way to go before we start understanding unlearning.

I am delighted to write few feedbacks.

“The concept is too good to study and something very important for everybody to understand.”

“Session was good and topic is new to me. I want to attend more workshop on this topic.”

“Topic is quite interesting and psychological which is helpful for life.”

I have uploaded few photographs and posters prepared by faculties there on ulbul yahoo group. I hope that you all will like them and get more innovative ideas of unlearning.

Principal Prof (Dr) Rajkumar Nayak was very excited about my research. He is an author of seven books, he claimed. He spent more than half an hour after the workshop exclusively to talk to me about my research.

Unlearning is a great idea and its time has arrived. I request all the bloggers to join hands to find little more of unlearning in their day to day life so that they can understand unlearning and make use of this in their lives. They must promise to spend few minutes to know about unlearning.

For those who could not attend the workshop & missed... better luck next time...
